Your Weekly Wellington Shire Council Update
Wellington Shire libraries are offering an amnesty on all
library items between now and 28 February 2018.
Visit your local library in Sale, Maffra, Heyfield, Stratford,
Rosedale, Yarram or the Outreach Library and your long-
lost, damaged and overdue fines will be waived.
Simply return the items, no questions asked and receive a
replacement library card for free. Exclusions may apply, ask
your local library staff.
Applications are now open for Wellington Shire Council’s
2018 Community Assistance Grants (March round).
The grants are available bi-annually to local community
groups and organisations who need assistance funding
initiatives that build capacity, promote participation and
working together to maintain community assets and
support cultural development.
Funding applications are currently being invited from not
for profit groups seeking funding of between $2,001 to
$5,000 in the Community Event and Community Projects

Almost 3,000 people from
Shire and beyond joined the
celebrations for the official Port of
Sale opening on Saturday.
The Port of Sale precinct was
officially opened by Wellington
Shire Mayor Carolyn Crossley,
Member for Eastern Victoria
Harriet Shing, Federal Member
for Gippsland The Hon Darren
Chester and Brian Castles from
the John Leslie Foundation.
Festivities began with an official
Smoking Ceremony and Welcome
to Country by Gunaikurnai
Elders, the traditional owners of
Gippsland. This was followed by
official speeches, cutting of a cake
and flyover by the RAAF Roulettes.
Visitors were then welcomed in to
the new building and entertained
by live musicians, singers and
other activities throughout the
day including a special visit by
much loved children’s author
Alison Lester in the children’s
Children were fascinated with the
computer coding and robotics
displays, skills sessions at the
skate park, along with ongoing
art gallery and library activities
throughout the day.
There was also plenty
for the adults with
local history and
displays, art gallery
curator talks, building
tours, various come-
including yoga and
kirtan and much more.
Mayor Carolyn Crossley hailed the
opening a resounding success.
“It was so great to see all the
smiling faces and to hear the
positive feedback about the new
precinct,” she said.
“Many people commented to
me that they couldn’t believe we
have such a fantastic facility in
Council’s free monthly immunisation sessions for all eligible
infants, school children and adults will be held at:

Immunisations are offered in accordance with the National Immunisation
