Devon put on a show
THE Australian and Aboriginal flags fly high at the Yarram Secondary College atop the new flag
pole that was celebrated with a dedication ceremony to mark the first day of school yesterday.
Students and staff were joined by members of the Yarram RSL, Yarram Apex, Lions Club, Blokes and Banter who had
generously donated funds to the school so as it could purchase a new tri-flagpole to replace the old flagpole. Principal David
Mowbray invited student Ebony Boast to raise the college flag to start the dedication before calling on special guest Shaun
Braybrook, manager of Wulgunggo Ngalu Learning Centre to speak about the origins of the Aboriginal flag before it was
unfurled to the sounds of the didgeridoo, played by Shaun and participants from the centre.
Rick Roger, president of Yarram RSL was then invited to speak about the Australia Flag. The dedication finished with
Mackenzie Walker and Tayla Dwyer singing Advance Australia Fair.
